Looking to make AirMason’s easy-to-use interface even easier?
Below are five simple design tips and tricks that will help you elevate your online handbook in no time.

1. Resize images your before uploading

In order to keep load times fast, AirMason’s caps images at 4.76 MB; images exceeding this size will not upload. Resizing images before you start building your digital handbook is an easy way to save precious time and avoid pesky error messages.

2. Use a ‘blank page’ to control logo sizing

In order to have more control over your logo — where it’s located, how big or small it is — opt for a blank page instead of a hero page. When using a blank page, you can upload your logo as an image in the text box, allowing you to choose where it appears in relation to your title page copy. When using the hero page, the logo size and placement are fixed.

Steps to do it:

  • Under sections, select ‘add page’

  • Select ‘blank page’

  • Click anywhere on the text box to make the toolbar appear. Select ‘insert/edit image’ and upload your logo

  • Use the corners of your logo to resize it or the toolbar to select its orientation on the page (left, right, centre)

  • Write the copy you want displayed on your homepage (ie. “Employee Handbook), either above, below or beside the logo

  • Finally, to complete your title page, upload a background photo or colour by selecting ‘style’

3. Break up content sections for better engagement

HR policies can be long and sometimes tedious to read. A simple way to make your content more consumable for employees is by ensuring you use a different background for each policy or slide. For instance, Instead of having two policies in a row with white backgrounds, try making one a light gray or utilizing AirMason’s photo bank for an impactful background. By creating a visual divide between sections, employees will remain engaged from beginning to end.

How to do it:

  • To change the background colour or add an image as your slide background, simply select ‘style’

  • Choose a pre-set colour, or use the Hex code to match your brand colours

  • Tip: the hex colour F3F3F3 is a nice, neutral grey that you can use to divide slides without too much colour

  • If you’re uploading a photo, try selecting ‘darken background’ to help the overlaid text appear more prominently

4. Create custom colours to match your brand

When choosing background or font colours for your handbook, why not look to your brand guidelines? AirMason’s style panel allows you to choose custom colours, so you can match your brand’s hex codes for the perfect representation of your company.

How to do it:

  • To set match a background colour to your brand images, simply type in the hex code beneath the pre-set background colour options (where it says “FFFFFF”)

  • To create a custom colour without a hex code, click on the colour box (where it says “FFFFFF”), and a colour meter will appear, allowing you to pick a unique colour

  • To match a text colour to your brand in the content box, highlight the text with your cursor and select the underlined ‘A’ from the toolbar

  • Either input a unique hex code, or click custom to explore the colour meter.

5. Get creative with photos

Uploading photos to the background of your slides is a great way to make your handbook more visual — but it isn’t the only way! To preserve some white space without boring your audience, try uploading images inside your text box.

How to do it:

  • To upload an image within your text box, simply click on the part of the page where you want your photo to show up

  • When the toolbar appears, select ‘insert/edit image’ and choose your file

  • Use the corners of your logo to resize it or the toolbar to select its orientation on the page (left, right, centre)

  • To continue inputting content below the photo, click on the image so it is highlighted, press your arrow key to the right and press enter; this will allow you to continue writing below.
